How to install Enterprise Architect
Enterprise Architect 7.0 (http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/) is a Windows modeling tool that supports UML 2.1, XMI 2.1 for UML 2.0 and 2.1, code generation for C++, C#, Java, Delphi, VB.net, Visual Basic, ActionScript, PHP, Python and XML schema. It is a commercial product (~200 $ per license) maintained by sparx system.
It is possible to install Enterprise architect on Linux using Wine (http://www.winehq.org <http://www.winehq.org/>) which is an open source implementation of the Windows API on top of Unix. To do so, you will need to install wine first on your linux platform and install Enterprise Architect.
- you can either install wine via yum (install manager that retrieve the needed rpm and install them by checking the dependencies) by launching 'yum install win'.
- Or you can install directly the rpms from a redhat repository (i.e: http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/epel/5Client/i386). You will need to install all the following rpms list:
- wine-capi-1.0-1.el5.i386.rpm - wine-cms-1.0-1.el5.i386.rpm - wine-core-1.0-1.el5.i386.rpm - wine-desktop-1.0-1.el5.i386.rpm - wine-esd-1.0-1.el5.i386.rpm - wine-jack-1.0-1.el5.i386.rpm - wine-ldap-1.0-1.el5.i386.rpm - wine-nas-1.0-1.el5.i386.rpm - wine-tools-1.0-1.el5.i386.rpm - wine-twain-1.0-1.el5.i386.rpm - wine-1.0-1.el5.i386.rpm
Once done, you just have to double click on the Enterprise Architect icon installer just as if you were on a windows platform.
To install wine on ubuntu just type:
sudo apt-get install wine
or use the "Synaptic package manager". Note that in both cases you must be on the "sudo" administrators list.
